Rediscover the pleasure of waking up without muscle tension in your jaw or cheeks and protect your smile with a digitally designed dental bite guard made in just a few days.
Bruxism and daytime clenching subject teeth, muscles and temporomandibular joints (TMJ) to excessive loads. The result? Enamel wear, possible headaches both in the morning and during the day, joint noises and a loss of confidence. A dental bite guard (also called night guard or occlusal splint) is an effective conservative therapy to reduce temporomandibular disorders and protect your smile.
Our practice primarily uses the stabilization splint (Michigan splint), a rigid occlusal appliance used as reversible therapy, capable of modifying dental contacts during use without permanently altering the dentition. By wearing it, you achieve symmetrical and balanced dental contacts that promote relaxation of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles.
We use intraoral scanners instead of traditional impression materials: rapid procedure, maximum precision and zero discomfort. The 3D file is processed in our CAD-CAM laboratory, which mills the bite guard from a high-density resin block.
Thanks to the digital workflow, we deliver the dental bite guard in just a few days without compromising on precision and comfort.
We receive by appointment to ensure maximum privacy and service quality.
A dental bite guard is a removable device, made of rigid resin, designed to stabilize dental occlusion and protect teeth and masticatory muscles from overload. It serves to prevent wear, relax muscles and reduce symptoms from temporomandibular disorders.
Various types exist:
The custom dental bite guard has a total cost of €770, which includes the gnathological examination, digital design, personalized fabrication of the device, follow-up appointments and any adjustments over time. This is a durable solution: a well-designed bite guard can maintain its effectiveness for several years, offering long-term comfort, stability and protection.
The bite guard can promote better nighttime rest by reducing clenching and relaxing the muscles. In some cases, particularly with specific models, it can also encourage slight mandibular protrusion, useful for reducing snoring and alleviating mild sleep apnea. Naturally, for an apnea diagnosis, a specialized investigation is essential.
The main symptoms include dental wear, masticatory muscle pain, morning headaches, neck tension and mandibular clicking. The rigid bite guard reduces involuntary teeth clenching, distributing the load evenly and protecting both the enamel and the temporomandibular joint.
Improper or prolonged use can generate occlusal changes, temporary phonetic alterations, or initial discomfort. In rare cases, it may worsen apnea if not well calibrated. That’s why it’s essential to entrust its evaluation and creation to a specialist and implement regular clinical check-ups.
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are generally treated by dentists, particularly those with experience in gnathology or temporomandibular joint disorders. In more complex or surgical cases, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, otolaryngologists and orofacial pain specialists are also involved.
Most patients consult a dentist for conservative therapies; if necessary, an oral/maxillofacial surgeon is involved for more advanced interventions
A dental bite guard, or occlusal splint, is a removable appliance, usually made of rigid acrylic resin (hard splint) or combined soft/hard layers (hard-soft splint: e.g. resin + polyurethane).
The bite guard is positioned over the upper arch (or in rare cases on the lower one), making it adhere to the teeth by moving from the center toward the margins. Once positioned, the patient gently closes the mandible allowing the teeth to find the correct position on the bite guard surface.
After delivery, the dentist verifies the fit and makes any adjustments to ensure proper occlusal balance.
